Dizzy Gillespie 's "A Night in Tunisia" was one of the stunning tracks of the Turtle Island String Quartet 's debut recording; this version with orchestra was co-arranged by Balakrishnan and Vince Mendoza, though the somewhat over dramatic buildup pales beside the original version. More successful is the medley of two songs by Miles Davis, "Blue in Green" and "Seven Steps to Heaven."6/

The Turtle Island String Quartet was born in and derived its name from creation mythology found in Native American Folklore. The quartet fuses the classical quartet aesthetic with contemporary American musical styles, which include folk, bluegrass, swing, be-bop, funk, R&B, rock, hip-hop, as well as music of Latin America and India.

"A Night in Tunisia" is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around –42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard.
